“World Frog” 20″ x 24″ Colored Pencil and watercolor on Paper “World Frog” uses a green tree frog as its subject, as a symbol of the earth. The shapes of the continents in the eyes of the frog is representative of the entire biosphere being linked as one. The watercolor was used to enhance the richness and smoothness of color of the piece.
“The Red Balloon” 16″ x 20″ Colored Pencil and Ink on Paper Colored Pencil and Ink on Paper This piece is inspired by a French short film of the same name. In the film, a boy, Pascal, finds a large red balloon trapped, tied to a lamppost. Pascal frees the balloon, and the two become friends. The balloon follows Pascal around, and they are great pals. Eventually, other children become jealous. They hunt down Pascal and his balloon, capture the balloon, and eventually break it. Heartbroken, Pascal mourns the death of his friend. Just then, balloons all over Paris free themselves to join Pascal, and take him on an adventure around the world.
